ARCHIVED NEWS:

Cast and crew of The Laramie Project had the opportunity to perform the play for an enthusiastic and receptive audience in Smithers this past weekend. A good time was had by all.

A big round of applause goes out to the Smithers producers Miriam Colvin and Matthew Pearson who invited us to share the message of this important play with their community. A big thank-you also to Hans Saefkow who worked very hard while helping us move into and out of the theatre.

A powerful docu-drama that explores the roots of intolerance and the path to acceptance in Laramie Wyoming, following the tragic death of Matthew Shepard in October 1998. A complex portrayal of the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable. FREE Student Admission (advance tickets only, students tickets $2 at the door or by donation) with net proceeds to the Youth Safe House. Donations toward the Youth Safe House, under the auspices of "The Laramie Project", may be made at the Bank of Montreal. For more info, please contact Shelly (635-3882).

Parental Guidance Strongly Recommended - "This play has no official rating. Using the unedited words of the people of the town, it contains coarse language, minor sexual references and although the beating of Matt Shepard is not depicted, the graphic details are not spared. It is often produced by high schools, and with parental guidance, I believe children as young as ten will benefit from seeing it. I will be accompanying my nine year old daughter. Please, use your discretion – you know your child best." - Annette Martindale, Producer / Director, "The Laramie Project"

Performance Dates:
April 21 & 22, 8pm & April 23, 1pm -
McColl Playhouse
April 27 & 28, 8pm
- REM Lee Theatre
With the April 23 Matinee followed by a "talk back" session at 4pm to open up dialogue and provide guidance and insight on the issues.
