Pride of Hockeyville Needs a Co-Captain...

... or "Self-Help" is cast by we need a Stage Manager

For over forty years the Terrace Little Theatre has been entertaining Terrace and the surrounding region with top-notch theatre performances and has represented Terrace in style and pride at too many provincial and regional festivals to count.

If you want to be an integral part of BC's longest running and most successful amateur theatre troupe, this is your chance. We have chosen our spring show and it's cast. All we need now is someone to help steer the ship.

We require a Stage Manager and back stage crew members. The Stage Manager is the number two "man" in the system. He/she helps the director with the everyday managerial tasks that can sometimes take him/her away from focusing creatively on bringing the best product possible to the stage. The SM eventually takes the reigns at Dress Rehearsal and takes the directors vision and makes it reality by ensuring the lighting and sound cues are perfromed properly and that the backstage crew (or ASM's) are doing their jobs so that the actors can focus on putting their best work ON the stage for the audience. He/she also works closely with the producer and TLT executive board to bring the show to the stage.

It sounds like alot of work, but it's also very rewarding and in the end when the run is over, you've helped bring joy to hundreds of people, made a bunch of new friends in the process, you'll have been bitten by the theatre bug and want to do it again and again and again. Plus you'll get to see one of the most hilarious shows we've ever done FOR FREE!

If you're interested in SM-ing or ASM-ing or if you think the technical end of things (lighting and or sound work) is right for you, please call Chris Stone at (250) 635 3334 or email to christone@citywest.ca.

Terrace Screening of 'The Way Home'- March 3rd

Dear Friend,

Today, between 10,000 and 15,000 British Columbians are homeless. They are our neighbours, our sisters and brothers, our sons and daughters.

I want to invite you to attend the presentation of a new film on homelessness I will be hosting in Terrace on Tuesday March 3rd, 7pm, McColl Playhouse
(3625 Kalum St.)

Last year I traveled to 22 towns and cities across BC and spoke with hundreds of homeless people, service providers and local government officials. Two young film makers, Kevin Fitzgerald and Louvens Remy, followed the tour and did hundreds of hours of additional filming. The result, “The Way Home,” is a moving, thoughtful and informative film. We promised then to return to each of the towns we filmed in to show the movie, and on Tuesday, March 3rd we will keep that commitment.

British Columbians are caring and decent. We want to work together to end homelessness. This film showing is a chance for us to learn more about homelessness, and to speak with one another about what we can do to make our province a better place for every British Columbian.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Facilities Report - February 25 2009

Highlights:
  • The three parcels of land owned by the Terrace Little Theatre Society have been rezoned to the same Category of Public Institutional.
  • We are awaiting confirmation that the interior lot lines have been removed, so we can position an on-site warehouse where it will suit us best.

Priorities (in listed order):

  • Removal of the poles from the auditorium
  • Replacement of seats (or restoration of current ones)
  • Construction of on-site warehouse
  • Beautification of exterior of playhouse
  • improvement of the lean-to section

Contractors have been contacted to make them aware of our plans, as has the city. Engineering issues have been discussed with outside firms.

---------

Notes:

  • We have been looking into flexible solutions for our seating plans. Retractable seating (as installed in one of the Prince Rupert Gymnasiums) was seen to be too expensive, so other less expensive solutions are being reviewed. Until the poles are removed, the seating will remain in its present loose form.
  • Warehouse: we are looking at a quality prefabricated option, but are aware of that the college has a program available that could help keep costs down and perhaps offer a more flexible design. We have to wait until the lot lines are officially removed before construction can start.
  • Improvements to the Lean-to, by agreement from the committee, will wait until after all other major priorities have been achieved.

Maintenance:

  • The doorknob to the dressing room was suggested as something to look at.

Youth Report - February 25 2009

Summary:
  • Youth Troupe: Sandy Watson is very interested in developing a solid group of teens and exploring the Streets Theatre concept. Marianne Weston is also interested, but would like it to develop out of Kermode Friendship Society's BUNK#7 Project. Discussions are ongoing.
  • Summer Drama Days: It was decided that if we can get enough funding through Service Canada that we would put on the program essentially as we have done before, but with an increased number of paid staff, and more resources put towards supervision and volunteer help. There are still a number of issues to work out before we can officially announce SDD 2009, but there has also been some communication with outside partners that could increase our capacity to manage this very popular program.
