Exciting News – Reno’s at the TLT

Exciting News – Reno’s at the TLT

After many years of fund raising, much needed renovations and improvements to the McColl Playhouse are finally taking shape. Drive by the McColl over the coming weeks and you will notice that we’re getting a facelift! New siding is being installed. We are also adding insulation – no more long cold hours of rehearsals. This should also help keep our energy costs down.

And watch for the beginnings of a new on-site warehouse. The slab will be poured within the next few weeks and construction of the actual warehouse is expected in the early fall. Soon it will be time to move everything over from the old warehouse to the new so watch your emails for an opportunity to help us out.

Facilities Report - April 29 2009

Building Upgrades:
  • Exterior beautification and on-site warehouse are priorities
  • Marianne has offered to put together a submission proposal for pole removal in auditorium, outlining a few different options. Exact time of removal will depend on a number of things, but it is hoped to be done before 2010.
  • Still looking into grant opportunities for exterior beautification. Estimates will be requested for new siding, along with storm windows for upper floor.
  • Looking into finding historical photos of McColl Playhouse in order to find original appearance.
  • Patrick looking into further options for auditorium seating. Also, committee is considering fundraisers for new seating or feasibility of refurbishing
  • Garnett will be organizing a work party to put auditorium seating in for "Self Help."
  • Looking into quotes on laying concrete, partners for construction of warehouse, and direction on proper location.
  • Lean-to will wait other priorities addressed

Maintenance:

  • When siding is being applied, fix flashing.
  • Alan mentioned having a mason fix our chimney.

Facilities Report - March 25 2009

Building Highlights:

  • Exterior beautification will be given higher priority.Garnett is looking into local grant money for exterior work.
  • Discussion on construction of on-site storage space. This has been fast tracked, as its construction is not hindered by what goes on in the building. Garnett will be looking at prefabricated options. Norm Larson will be looking into a carpentry application with the college.
  • Pole removal: Bruce Miller, City Building Inspector, has been consulted and is OK with plans as long as the current structural stability of the building is not reduced. He does not see any issues with issuing a permit once blueprints are submitted.
  • There was discussion of various options to replace seating risers.
  • There was discussion of pouring a new cement layer on the floor to make it level
  • It was agreed that the lean-to section will wait until other priorities are completed.

Maintenance Highlights:

  • Seating as been returned to their original positions, but will be configured more appropriately before our next show.
  • Warehouse cleanup party in April TBA.
  • We are exploring a replacement van option.

Facilities Report - February 25 2009

Highlights:
  • The three parcels of land owned by the Terrace Little Theatre Society have been rezoned to the same Category of Public Institutional.
  • We are awaiting confirmation that the interior lot lines have been removed, so we can position an on-site warehouse where it will suit us best.

Priorities (in listed order):

  • Removal of the poles from the auditorium
  • Replacement of seats (or restoration of current ones)
  • Construction of on-site warehouse
  • Beautification of exterior of playhouse
  • improvement of the lean-to section

Contractors have been contacted to make them aware of our plans, as has the city. Engineering issues have been discussed with outside firms.

---------

Notes:

  • We have been looking into flexible solutions for our seating plans. Retractable seating (as installed in one of the Prince Rupert Gymnasiums) was seen to be too expensive, so other less expensive solutions are being reviewed. Until the poles are removed, the seating will remain in its present loose form.
  • Warehouse: we are looking at a quality prefabricated option, but are aware of that the college has a program available that could help keep costs down and perhaps offer a more flexible design. We have to wait until the lot lines are officially removed before construction can start.
  • Improvements to the Lean-to, by agreement from the committee, will wait until after all other major priorities have been achieved.

Maintenance:

  • The doorknob to the dressing room was suggested as something to look at.
