Exciting News – Reno’s at the TLT

Exciting News – Reno’s at the TLT

After many years of fund raising, much needed renovations and improvements to the McColl Playhouse are finally taking shape. Drive by the McColl over the coming weeks and you will notice that we’re getting a facelift! New siding is being installed. We are also adding insulation – no more long cold hours of rehearsals. This should also help keep our energy costs down.

And watch for the beginnings of a new on-site warehouse. The slab will be poured within the next few weeks and construction of the actual warehouse is expected in the early fall. Soon it will be time to move everything over from the old warehouse to the new so watch your emails for an opportunity to help us out.

Play Submissions Deadline > August 15th

We are hoping to have a season brochure and membership packages this year, but we do not have the strong commitments we need to do that. We are asking for play submissions for the Dinner Theate Slot and the Spring slot by August 15, 2009.

We know there are directors who are very interested, but they have yet to fill out their paperwork. So please, don't make us come to your house with a pen...

Summer Drama Days - Cancelled for 2009

The Terrace Little Theatre regrets informing the community that we will not able to run this very popular program for the Summer of 2009. Inadequate funding and volunteer capacity, plus potential conflicts with on-site construction projects, have placed us in the position of having to cancel Summer Drama Days for the second year in a row.

We are not happy with having to make this decision, but we had little option based on our existing program model. The Terrace Little Theatre asks for you understanding. We will be continuing to work on a revised program model for 2010, and other youth projects for the near future.

Summer Drama Days takes the year off

The Terrace Little Theatre has been running their summer camp for children – “Summer Drama Days” for more than a quarter century. This year they have decided to take a break. “It’s not that it wasn’t working”, said President Patrick McIntyre. “It’s just that it could work better.”

The prized summer drama program has been an annual hit with kids and parents and has trained many youth as theatre instructors over the years. TLT sees it as an ideal environment for young people to build important life-skills and foster a love of theatre. But it takes a significant amount of volunteer hours to supervise and support the program. Feedback from children, parents and student instructors leads the club to believe it’s time to have a closer look at how to structure the program, and the club, to better support our goals.

As it turns out, the timing is ideal. TLT is planning to build a second space on their property to house props and sets before embarking on renovations of the theatre. Since the building is structurally sound, the Executive has decided it makes sense to invest in their current assets, as many homeowners in the area are already doing. “Our friendly theatre ghost had the last word”, says an executive member who wishes to remain unnamed. The club is looking into the history of the building to see if it has heritage potential.

Play Director Needed

We are looking for a Director/Play for the 2009 Spring slot. If you have an idea, send in a proposal or just talk to a TLT Executive Member. We need to hear from you as soon as possible, so don't procrastinate. Take that leap and make live theatre happen.

Chris Stone has agreed to direct the Fall production.
Julie Jacobs is directing the annual Dinner Theatre.

All plays to be announced in September.

Plus: Are you are thinking about participating in the Udder Fest in Prince Rupert (August)? Let us know and we can see how we can help.

"The Drawer Boy" becomes "The Zoo Story"

The cast and crew of Terrace Little Theatre's "The Drawer Boy" have been forced to abandon their plans for a festival performance at the Skeena Zone Drama Festival this year.

"We are devastated", says director Marianne Brorup Weston. Due to an actor requiring surgery that turned out to take him out of commission for the immediate future, the project was halted last week when a search for a replacement actor failed.

Not one to be deterred, Brorup Weston is taking the remaining cast and crew forward with a smaller, but equally exciting project, the classic Edward Albee play, "The Zoo Story".

"A stumbling block can be turned into a stepping stone for bigger things if the talent and will is there", adds Brorup Weston. I have two incredibly talented actors and an amazing crew who deserve a chance to shine." She cites a supportive TLT Executive for giving her the encouragement and the chance to move ahead.

In the meantime,"The Drawer Boy" will go on Brorup Weston's back burner.
"When the time is right, it will come together."
